Renovation work of the Mahawa- Omanthai stretch of the Northern Railway line commenced today under the auspices of Minister of Transport Bandula Gunawardena and Indian High Commissioner to Sri Lanka Gopal Baglay.

The Department of Government Information stated that the inauguration was held near the Medawachchiya Railway station.

The Rs. 33 billion project is being carried out under a loan provided by the Government of India.

Indian firm, IRCON International, which is involved in several development projects in Sri Lanka, is spearheading this railway renovation project as well.
