Prisons Commissioner files complaint against rumor mongers!
Prisons Commissioner General Thushara Upuldeniya has lodged a complaint with the IGP seeking legal action against those who engaged in spreading false propaganda over social media alleging that prisoners were used in the attack against protesters at Galle Face and Temple Trees.
The Prisons Commissioner has also notified the IGP regarding death threats and insults leveled against him.
The letter states that a former senior prison officer and a group of senior prison officials who had several allegations against them in the past as well as a group affiliated with NGOs were behind this false propaganda.
He urged the IGP to conduct an investigation regarding the allegations levelled that prisoners were used in the attack against protesters and the attacks on prison busses and the damage caused.The letter to the IGP further states that the prisoners at the Watareka open prison are deployed for projects with government approval and on this day the prisoners had been deployed for work and were being taken back to the Watareka prison when this incident happened.
