LARGE HUMANITARIAN GRANT ASSISTANCE OF USD 16 MILLION FROM INDIA

USD 16 million worth assistance to arrive from India

The Indian High Commission in Sri Lanka says a large humanitarian grant assistance consignment worth more than Rs.2 billion will reach Sri Lanka tomorrow.

The High Commission issuing a statement said the consignment, consists of 9,000MT of rice, 50MT of milk powder, and more than 25MT of drugs and other medical supplies.

The goods will be handed over by the Indian High Commissioner in Sri Lanka Gopal Baglay.The consignment was flagged off from the Chennai port by the Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu MK Stalin on the 18th of May.

The High Commission said this is the first incoming consignment under a larger commitment of 40,000MT of rice, 500MT of milk powder, and medicines by the government of Tamil Nadu, and translates to more than Rs.5.5 billion.The consignment will be distributed among beneficiaries across the country including the Northern, Eastern, Central, and Western Provinces.
