POLICE REQUEST SQUASHED BY COURTS FOR PEACEFUL PROTESTS

Court rejects police request!

Colombo Additional Magistrate Harsha Kekulawala today (May 26) rejected a request by the Cinnamon Gardens Police to issue an injunction restraining a protest near Cambridge Place in Colombo, causing public inconvenience.

The magistrate said that the court would not issue orders to prevent peaceful protests, but said that the police had the power to prevent protests that cause obstruction to the educational activities of GCE Ordinary Level students or inconvenience the public.
