Proposals for revision of power bills; factory power bills to increase!
Minister of Power and Energy Kanchana Wijesekera said that the electricity tariff will be revised excluding low income earners, low power consumers and places such as government hospitals.
Accordingly, he said that this could possibly increase the power bills of factories by three to four times their current bill.
He noted that while Rs. 47.18 is spent to produce every unit of power, the CEB charges every sector much less than that.
The minister also pointed out that the CEB spends Rs. 750 billion every month on power generation while their annual income through power bills is only Rs. 250 billion.
