Flood and landslide warnings issued
The Department of Irrigation says flooding may be experienced around the Kelani river if water levels continue to increase due to incessant rain.
Speaking to the media, Director of the Hydrology and Disaster Management Division of the Irrigation Department, Engineer SPC Sugeeshwara urged individuals of low lying areas around the Kelani river to remain vigilant or rising water levels during the night.
He explained that residents of Ruwanwella, Dehiowita, Seethawaka, Dompe, Kaduwela, Biyagama, Kolonnawa and Colombo living around the Kelani river must take precautions.
Sugeeshwara said a considerable rise in water levels have not been witnessed in the area, but added that the situation around the Kelani river may change overnight.
