Yala season paddy cultivation faces grim outlook
The Ministry of Agriculture points out that paddy cultivation for the Yala season faces a grim outlook due to the shortage of fertilizer.
A senior official at the Ministry explained that if fertilizer stocks are not received prior to 15 July, the Yala harvest will be unsuccessful. He added that if the fertilizer arrives by that date, at least 50% of the cultivated land should yield good results,
Meanwhile, funds are yet to be allocated to pay compensation for the damages suffered during the previous Maha season.
The official went on to say that Rs. 100 Mn has been requested for it, adding that it has not yet been decided on the compensation for the Yala season.
