MINISTER ORDERS UNCLEARED STOCK OF APPLES 24,000 KG ( 100,000 Apples) TO BE SENT TO ZOO

24,000 kg of uncleared apples given to the zoo!

Ports, Shipping and Aviation Minister Nimal Siripala de Silva today (10) handed over 24,000 kilos of uncleared apples from the port to the Dehiwala Zoo.

The stock of apples estimated to be around Rs. 20 million and contains nearly 100,000 apples.

The Apple container, which had been stored at the Colombo International Container Terminal for some time, was imported from China to Sri Lanka last February.

The Minister said that since the Apple container was not cleared by the importers, steps were taken to look into the matter and hand it over to the zoo after discussions with the Ports, Customs and CICT Terminal officials.
