Bus and trishaw fares go up!

The bus fares will be increased on July 1, said the Director General of the National Transport Commission, Dr. Thilan Miranda.

He also said that the annual compulsory bus fare revision takes place on July 01 and the fares will be revised considering the increase of fuel prices and spare parts as well as the appreciation of the US Dollar.

A special meeting is to be held in this regard between the minister and bus associations on Tuesday (28), he adds.
Pvt. buses to halt services on Tuesday?

Meanwhile, the Lanka Private Bus Owners’ Association (LPBOA) today (26) requested to consider the annual bus fare revision by tomorrow in the wake of the recent fuel price hike.
If no favourable response is received, bus services will grind to a halt from Tuesday (28), they add.
LPBOA Chairman Gemunu Wijerathne has said the annual bus fare revision comes into force on every July 01.
“We had to face fuel price increases twice within a short period of time. Now, we are pushed to a situation where we are forced to wind up operating buses,” he said.
Therefore, we have decided to terminate operating bus service from Tuesday (28), if we do not receive a favourable response by Monday (27), Wijerathne added.
