BASL urges to protect documents & other public properties
The Bar Association of Sri Lanka (BASL) has expressed deep concern with regard to statements attributed to various parties including those who were part of the protest groups which undermine the rule of law in Sri Lanka.
The BASL says that it is in the best interests of the country that the country’s functions are continued as it is with respect to constitutionalism.
Commenting on the reports concerning vandalism by occupied groups and protestors at the President’s House, Temple Trees, and the Presidential Secretariat, the BASL calls upon those occupying the premises to ensure that proper authorities are given custody of the buildings, and to ensure the protection of documents and other public properties, which are of archaeological significance.
The BASL has also called for a smooth and peaceful transition of power while abiding by the rule of law and Constitutionalism.
It notes that it is equally important to ensure an orderly transition, and continuous respect for rule of law and Constitutionalism in Sri Lanka, to protect the lives of Sri Lankans and their livelihoods.
