Brigadier who couldn’t save PM office sent to HQ

The Sri Lanka Army says that Brigadier Anil Somaweera, who was on duty at the Prime Minister’s Office when it was taken over by protesters, has not been suspended over the incident.

Army spokesman Brigadier Nilantha Premaratne issuing a press release said that news regarding a suspension was incorrect.

He stated that the Brigadier in question has been assigned to Army Headquarters for an unrelated official matter.

A video circulating on social media shows the Brigadier assuring protesters that they will not be shot at.
