Commonwealth Games commences today
The Commonwealth Games will begin tomorrow (28) in Birmingham, England. More than 5000 athletes from 72 countries will be participating in the 22nd edition of the Games.
Sri Lanka will send 110 athletes from Sri Lanka to participate in the ganes, in the athletics, weightlifting, women’s cricket, rugby, badminton, gymnastics and swimming events. At present, meets are being held in several stadiums, including the Alexander Stadium, and the athletes are arriving in the host country, England.
Meanwhile, Birmingham University and several other hotels have been added to the sports village.
This is the third time England has hosted the Commonwealth Games.
