Over 280 billion loans obtained during Rajapaksa regime, missing from government financial statements!

Foreign loans of over Rs. 280 billion obtained for the construction of the Puttalam coal plant and Hambantota port are not included in any of the government’s financial statements.

The Rs. 22.04 billion obtained for the first stage of the Puttalam coal power plant and the Rs. 25.97 billion obtained for the second stage is also among this.

Similarly, the Rs. 16.76 billion obtained for the Hambantota Port stage one and the Rs. 123.76 billion obtained for stage two of the project is not included in the financial statements. Further, the Rs. 20.78 billion obtained for additional work of the first stage is also among it.

This was revealed in a report presented to Parliament by the Auditor General.

The report also revealed that there was a difference of Rs. 116.35 billion between the repayment value of the foreign debt last year and the repayment value of the debt noted in the financial statements.

It has also been revealed that the loans not included in the government financial statements are those obtained during former President Mahinda Rajapaksa’s tenure.
