Nimal Siripala sworn in as minister (Update)

Nimal Siripala de Silva has been sworn in as the Minister of Ports, Shipping, and Aviation before President Ranil Wickremesinghe.

Mr. de Silva held the post previously as well before stepping down following bribery charges levelled against him.

A committee appointed to look into the allegations had exonerated him

Former Minister Nimal Siripala de Silva has been exonerated from the allegations that he asked for a bribe from a Japanese company.

It is reported that the investigations carried out by the three-member committee appointed by President Ranil Wickremesinghe have proved his innocence.

Retired High Court Judge Kusala Sarojani Weerawardena chaired the committee while retired Senior Deputy Inspector General of Police S.M. Wickramasinghe and a retired senior officer in the administrative service S. M. G. K. Perera served as the other members of the committee.

The relevant committee report was recently handed over to the President’s Secretary Saman Ekanayake.

The report of the committee related to the investigation conducted was also discussed in the cabinet meeting yesterday (August 01).

Nimal Siripala de Silva was resigned from his ministerial post, informing that an independent investigation should be conducted regarding the allegations made against him.
