ON FUEL DESTRIBUTION QUOTA INSUFFICIENT PRIVATE BUSES TO STRIKE

Private busses launch strike from midnight today!

The All Island Private Bus Owners Federation has decided to withdraw from operations across the island from midnight today (4) alleging that the fuel quota provided through the QR code system is insufficient.

Speaking at a media briefing, the General Secretary of the Federation Anjana Priyanjith said the government had decided to provide 40 litres of diesel per week for busses.He said long distance buses cannot even operate for one hour on 40 litres while short distance buses can make trips for around half a day.

Already, he said the Southern Province Bus Owners Association has withdrawn from bus operations in the entire Southern Province.Therefore, he said that several of our major bus associations have decided to withdraw from private bus services across Sri Lanka from midnight today.
