Underworld gunman taken to show weapons, falls to his death
An underworld gunman identified as Shirar alias Tuan had died after falling into a quarry pit today (09) in Nawagamuwa.
The gangster was under the custody of the Police Special Task Force and fell into the pit when he was taken to show hidden weapons.
Sri Lanka Police said that he is connected to the gunning down of SLPP Kotikawatte Mulleriywa PS member – Sumudu Rukshan on the 2nd of August at the Mulleriyawa Bank Junction as well as several other murders.Police say that the suspect had been rushed to the Oruwela Divisional Hospital in Nawagamuwa with grievous injuries after his fall and had succumbed to them after being admitted.
Meanwhile, a STF officer injured in a tussle with the suspect has also been admitted to the Athurugiriya Divisional Hospital and later transferred to the Colombo National Hospital, police add.The postmortem of the deceased is to be conducted today and further investigations are underway.
