Fr. Jeewantha Peiris released on 2 sureties
Rev. Fr. Jeewantha Peiris, who is a main figure of the ‘Aragalaya’ movement, has been granted two surety bails of Rs. 500,000 each by Fort Magistrate’s Court today (12). The magistrate also imposed a foreign travel ban on Fr. Peiris.
Fr. Peiris had surrendered through lawyers earlier today.Although the CID had requested the Court to remand Rev. Fr. Peiris, Fort Magistrate – Thilina Gamage had rejected the request.However, Rev. Fr. Peiris was told to give a statement tomorrow to the police.
The case is to be taken up again on Aug. 26.
