Karate-Do team deported from England; reason revealed
The Sri Lankan Karate-Do team was deported after being questioned at the Heathrow Airport in England upon arrival to participate in the Commonwealth Karate Championships 2022.
The Department of Sports Development meanwhile decided to launch an inquiry into this incident.
Upon requests by the team members, staff, and parents of the athletes, a meeting was held with the National Sports Council in this regard.
Accordingly, the Department of Sports Development said the visas had been cancelled due to a dispute between a third party and the director board of the Karate-Do Federation.
Owing to a conflict of interest with members of the National Sports Association, an outside group had affected the participation of the athletes by inconveniencing them gravely.Condemning such actions, the Department of Sports Development said that it will conduct an inquiry into the incident and take necessary action against those found guilty in the matter.
