Sisira to seek laws to legalize hemp

State Minister of Indigenous Medicine Sisira Jayakody says a Cabinet paper to formulate laws to legalize hemp (Kansa) exports will be tabled next month.

State Minister Jayakody said they are hoping to formulate the document by the 5th of October.

The State Minister claimed that through the production of hemp, the country can generate massive export revenue.

State Minister Sisira Jayakody noted that Sri Lanka is blessed with abundance of resources and through the promotion of indigenous medicine and ayurveda practices; the country can generate around US$ 3 billion.

The State Minister said discussions have been held widely in Parliament and outside of it in recent days regarding the lifting of restrictions on hemp exports.
