PMU FORMS A NEW UNIT TO FIND THE ACCURACY OF NEWS PUBLISHED

Presidential unit to find the accuracy of news!

A new unit has been established at the President’s Media Division to check whether the news published in the media about the people’s issues are accurate in order to solve these issues immediately.

It is said that the primary purpose of this unit is to provide solutions to the people’s issues that are the daily focus of President Ranil Wickremesinghe.

On the occasion of the Freedom of Information (FOI) Day, the program was held at the Presidential Secretariat under the aegis of President’s Secretary Saman Ekanayake.

President’s Secretary Ekanayake launched a new web page called “Prathichara” (https://pmd.gov.lk/counter-disinformation-unit/) aimed at immediately solving the issues of the public.

The Presidential Secretariat said another objective of the new unit is to prevent the spread of false information.

Speaking at the launch, Dr. Ranga Kalansuriya said that publishing government information even before the people ask for it under the Right to Information Act can reduce the damage caused by misinformation.

Director General of the Government Information Department Dinith Chinthaka Karunaratne, President’s Media Director General Dhanushka Ramanayake, President’s Media Director (Editorial) D. M. Piyasena were also present.
