Thirty Parliament officers refuse to retire at 60

Following the decision to bring down the age of retirement to 60, a group of senior officials employed at Parliament have decided to meet the President to get the retirement age limit increased to 63.

It was reported that about 30 officers were in the age group of 56-60.However, the government has decided to let go of nearly 30 people working in the Parliamentary General Secretariat Staff from December 31 after they reach the retirement age of 60.

It was reported that 220 employees of nine departments of Parliament have signed a letter and handed it over to the Speaker, requesting to increase the retirement age.About 800 employees work in nine departments of Parliament.

Meanwhile, the Parliamentary Staff Committee which met under the chairmanship of Speaker Mahinda Yapa Abeywardene today has also decided not to change the retirement age.
