EMBASSY OFFICIALS IN OMAN TO BE NABBED FOR HUMAN TRAFFICKING CHARGES

Human trafficking charges: CID to nab embassy officials in Oman

A special team is scheduled to leave for Oman today (03) in search of smugglers including the Sri Lankan embassy officials in connection with employing Sri Lankan women in prostitution and other forms of human trafficking by sending them as laborers to Middle Eastern countries.

The team comprising of officials of the National Anti-Human Trafficking Task Force representing the State Intelligence Service, Criminal Investigation Department, Immigration and Emigration Department and other departments is leaving to Oman under the directions of President Ranil Wickremesinghe.

Internal information has revealed that with the order given by President Wickremesinghe to send a special investigation team to 18 countries in the Middle East, the officials involved in this smuggling in the Sri Lankan embassies located in those countries have become agitated.

It has been revealed that 41 Sri Lankan women subjected to sexual violence and human trafficking are being held at a safe house where nine women are mentally unstable.
