CID GETS PERMISSION TO RECORD STATEMENTS FROM THILINI

CID granted permission to record statements from Thilini Priyamali

The Colombo Fort Magistrate’s Court has granted permission to the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) to record statements from Thilini Priyamali, who is accused of massive financial fraud.

Accordingly, the CID officials are permitted to record statements from the accused at the prison premises until November 30, Additional Prisons Commissioner General, Chandana Ekanayake said.

SJB appoints third deputy Chairman to party

Samagi Jana Balawegaya (SJB) MP J. C. Alawathuwela has been appointed Deputy Chairman of the party.

MP Alawathuwela is the third Deputy Chairman of the party as MPs Lakshman Kiriella and Rajitha Senaratne were also deputy chairmen of the party.

Mr. Alavathuwala has told the media he had also been given other tasks as well. “I have also been appointed as the head of the committee that looks into pensioners’ and state workers’ affairs. My task here is to woo pensioners and state workers into the party,” he said.

China’s Diesel donation arrives in SL (Pics)

The Oil tanker “Super Eastern” carrying 10.6 million litres (9,000 metric tonnes) of diesel donated by China has arrived at the Colombo Port.

The fuel is donated for farmers and fishermen in remote areas of Sri Lanka.

Tweeting, the Chinese embassy in Sri Lanka said that the Chinese Ambassador Qi Zhenhong today (27) boarded the oil tanker and handed over the diesel donation to Sri Lankan farmers & fishermen through related Sri Lankan ministries.

Distribution will start soon under a mutually agreed modality, the embassy adds.

India will row with SL in race against common challenges

The Madras-Colombo Regatta was worked off yesterday (26).

The Indian High Commission in Sri Lanka said the Regatta creates a unique link between India and Sri Lanka and the world.

The High Commission noted that the Madras-Colombo Regatta is considered to be the oldest Regatta in the world between two cities of different countries.

High Commissioner Gopal Baglay was the Chief Guest at the 81st edition which was supported by the Indian CEO Forum.

High Commissioner Baglay stated that India will continue to row together with Sri Lanka in the race against common challenges.
