PRICES OF FIVE ESSENTIAL GOODS SLASHED AT LANKA SATHOSA

Prices of 5 goods slashed at Lanka Sathosa

 

Lanka Sathosa, the state-owned wholesale and retail chain, has decided to reduce the prices of five essential food items with effect from today (Dec. 14).

Accordingly, the price of Dhal has been reduced by Rs.4, Wheat Flour by Rs.15, Garlic by Rs.35, Big Onion by Rs.9 per kilogram and Canned fish (local) by Rs.5.

The revised prices are as follows;

  1. Dhal – Rs.385
  2. Wheat Flour – Rs.250
  3. Garlic – Rs.460
  4. Big Onion – Rs.190
  5. Canned fish(local) – Rs.490

Meanwhile, Minister of Trade – Nalin Fernando has said that he expected to further slash prices of several essential goods in the coming week.

The price of a 50kg bag of INSEE Sanstha & INSEE Mahaweli Marine cement will be reduced from midnight today by Rs.225.

The new price will be Rs.2,750.

CBSL imposes penalties on 5 banks

The Central Bank of Sri Lanka (CBSL) has imposed financial penalties on five banks for non-compliance with the provisions of the Financial Transactions Reporting Act, No. 6 of 2006 (FTRA).

Penalties have been imposed on DFCC, Bank of Ceylon, People’s Bank, National Development Bank and the National Savings Bank

The CBSL further said that the money collected as penalties were credited to the Consolidated Fund.

Jaffna – Chennai flights resume

Direct flights between Jaffna and Chennai resumed this morning (11) with the first flight from Chennai landed at Palaly international Airport.

Jaffna accorded a warm and traditional welcome to the passengers of Alliance Air 9I 101 flight, which later returned to Chennai.

Alliance Air will operate 04 weekly flights between Palaly and Chennai.
