Nuwanidu receives ODI cap from skipper

Nuwanidu Fernando the 23 year old opener who played his ODI debut game against India yesterday receiving his ODI Cap from Sri Lanka skipper Dasun Shanaka before the second ODI played at Eden Garden Kolkata.

Sri Lankan new ODI player Nuwanidu Fernando received his ODI Cap from Skipper Dasun Shanaka shortly before the game commenced yesterday at Eden Garden, Kolkata.

The 23-year-old right-hander Nuwanidu made his first-class debut for Panadura SC in the 2016-2017 Premier League Cricket tournament on December 28, 2016, and he was named for the Sri Lanka under 19 squad in 2018 for the youth World Cup. Having played 31 first class matches Nuwanidu has scored 1771 runs with an average of 40.25 with six centuries and seven half-centuries.

A product of St Sebastian’s College, Moratuwa, Nuwanidu is the younger brother of Sri Lankan Test player (left arm medium paceman) Vishwa Fernando.

Former Sri Lankan skipper Kumar Sangakkara the international commentator for this series said this young batter has a good approach to the game. Russel Arnold the former National cricketer turned international commentator said Nuwanidu has a good technique and plays his strokes very well and he has a positive approach. He has a good future as a top order batter.
