An event named “Black Independence Day” was held in Batticaloa, simultaneous to the Independence Day event held in Colombo on Saturday (4).

The event held as a protest against several issues the Tamil people are facing in the country was organized by the Ilanakai Tamil Arasu katchi party.

”All Sri Lankans haven’t received independence in terms of financial stability, however Tamils don’t  have political independence also” TNA MP Shanakiyan Rasamanickam said participating in the protest.
