Monk arrested for stealing T56 from Panagoda Camp’s guard room!

The Criminal Investigation Department (CID) has arrested a Buddhist monk and another person on suspicion of stealing a T-56 firearm from a guard room adjacent to the Panagoda Army Camp.

The suspects have been residing at a temple in Godagama, Homagama.

A T56 firearm, 4 magazines, 120 rounds of ammunition and a safety bag were stolen from a soldier who was on duty at the guard room near the quarters of the Panagoda Army Camp on March 3.During the search operations launched following the incident, the police found a magazine containing 30 stolen bullets under a culvert on a byroad located about 100 meters away from the guard room.The suspects were identified from the CCTV footage obtained from a shop nearby. They were arrested and handed over to the CID on the instructions of the Inspector General of Police for further investigations.
