Tilani Hansika skilled in aesthetic expertise adamant to make pupils stars
In Sri Lanka there are many profusely talented musicians, lyric writers, vocalists who from their youthful ages having had a passion for music.Many after participating in reality shows have climbed to unprecedented high recognized positions to become popular singers. Many endeavor at any cost to become stars sans much expertise in music tutoring. In the present day reality shows what a lot of money is spent to cast ‘sms’ votes to force the way to top by eliminating may be a talented singer.However there is one rare exception in Tilani Hansika Chandrasena a graduate in western music passed out in year 2015 after following an academic course of six years, having learnt during her tenure all techniques in signing too.She had undergone ‘voice’ training under famous musician and Indian trained lecturer in music Heshan Gamage in his music academy for two years.To date she has trained many singers in ‘voice’ training particularly who contested in Sirasa Super Star and Derana Dream Star grueling competitions .Many who she had trained in voice training had triumphed among her many pupils , Tehani Imasha in Sirasa Super Star and Janith Iddamalgoda who won the coveted Derana Dream Star trophy in a recent season .
Tilani has had her primary and secondary education in the same school Minuwangoda Balika Madya Maha Vidyalaya.She had excelled in her studies, her subjects been Sinhalese, logic, and eastern music. Excelling in her results had gained admission to the Visual and Performing Arts University in year 2009 along with her twin sister Terisha Chathurika Chandrasena.During the years 2003 and 2007 she had been involved in Childrens’ unit in “lama gee sandewa” produced by Suranimala Jinendrasinghe.Tilani is a ‘B’ grade singer in childrens’ songs at the SLRC.She had previously sung in a number of programs at SLBS excelling in the ‘swarbawitha geetha’ folk and oriental songs .During this period Tilani had taken part in many signing contests, had been adjudicated as the fifth in the contest “Vendol gee tharu wasanthaya” After her graduation had decided to take up an appointment as a teacher as she was very keen to impart her extensive knowledge to students in all music techniques like sing with a ‘tall’ posture, breath from the diaphragm, relax throat, tongue and upper body as one sings which are vital areas in singing. She was appointed to Kegalle Parakumba Madhya Maha Vidyalaya in Nelundeniya where she taught for approximately for four years imparting her expertise to students,at the same time motivating them in not only in learning techniques in singing but also of life.
After four years at this school she got a transfer to Minuwangoda Nalanda boys school which is now has the status of a national school. She was assigned to teach from grade X1 advanced level in eastern music though she has obtained a diploma in western music. However She has an ambition to teach both eastern and western music to students as she is equipped to do so has an intention to teach advanced level students in both types.She is a ‘B’ grade singer in Childrens’ songs at the SLBC.She had been a vocalist is many bands singing in her inimitable styles which according to her helps when teaching students oriental , western ,classical or folk songs.It is learnt very reliably learnt that though she could be a star but she prefers to teach her students to become stars and to hold many positions related to music when they mature to be scattered in various parts of the island.This wish is very rare confession not heard as told for any teacher on what she had confessed.Tilani unlike many other teachers go beyond the usual routine restricting to her subject of music only but train them to become a star or a celebrity going beyond it .in compiling lyrics and musical melodies is what she expects from the students.It is known that she has selected about six students to concentrate on every areas of music to which she lays more emphasis.
Tilani is a unique, distinctive teacher who is a firm believer in motivation. She proposes to all teachers to promote passion to be cultivated in the minds of all students whatever subjects they follow whether it is maths, physics or music.If they fail or lose in an exam or in a contest, they should keep trying as one day they would achieve their targets. Simultaneously students should have dedication, perseveranc and total committment to all tasks. Though she is a voice trainer and singer she is of the opinion that in real life there is nothing that cannot be achieved .The winner in any event is applauded and hailed are offered chances but the loser receives no recognition receives fewer or no recognition and chances. Many students owing to so many constraints faced in life poverty taking its toll, the majority cannot achieve success, they naturally fall mentally .This is the human nature at which point motivation should be applied. Tilani feels that music has benefited because of her talent and expertise in music arena had aided her in this endeavour.When she was pregnant had been attending to the work in her classes carrying twins ,after birth she had at instances even locked them in the house had attended to her school duties which a very few would have done.In this sense Tilani is unique and exceptional human being deserves to me commended and emulated. She has been guided at all times in her with her skills in music ,it is same in so many fields with determination one could ultimately climb up.It is admitted by her that through sheer luck success achieved is very rare, but only those who had failed who attempts rigidly become successful.She had confessed that the future of a country is in the hands of teachers by creating a pathway to younger generation to an improved way of life.The obligation of any teacher is to guide the students in this manner inspiring them constantly finally moulding them in the right paths which would help to develop the country.
Tilani is also a clever exponent of ‘Jana’ gee had been trained under Lionel Ranwela in his music academy was selected for his singing group but did not pursue .She had been invited by various television channels for musical programs like in SLRC popular program ‘Sihinayaki Re’ in the month of May this year , then for the Kavi 10 ta Gee 10 yak program in Charana Television channel.It is reliably learnt that she has been invited to sing in SLRC’s
popular program ‘Sihinayaki Re’ again in mid December too as the authorities at SLRC knows her distinctive aptitude. In addition to her above talents and achievements she has completed more than half in her music Visharada degree in Eastern music also she has passed theory in Royal College of music London in piano,she is to complete her practical’s very soon.
Tilani born in year 1988 has achieved the above accomplishments at such a young age is also following a course externally for a law degree. She is married also to a Lawyer blessed with twin sons now aged four.Tilani had confessed that her intention in teaching is to lend her best imparting her wide knowledge to students in making them stars one day imparting the experience gained in singing in a number of bands during the period 2009 to 2015 while in the Visual and Performing arts University gaining competency in harmonizing, vocals in oriental, eastern and western songs which has boosted her morale in teaching her students.Tilani has developed a passion of an unprecedented tall level to form a band for the school which has unfortunately deprived the students for fifteen long years unlike those counterparts in Colleges in Colombo like Ananda, Nalanda and DS Senanayake Colleges. It would be the fervent hope of all known to her that she would very soon triumph over her passionate aspiration.
