Import ban imposed on several items!
A gazette notification has been issued imposing an import ban on several items with effect from June 1.
Accordingly, several types of items such as single-use straws, plastic plates, cups, and cutlery have been banned from importing.

A 25-year old preschool teacher has been killed today morning (07) in the Ilukwatta area in Peradeniya today, police say.
The victim, identified as Anjali Chaapa, was a resident of the Muruthalawa area and had been on her way to join the New Year celebrations of the preschool.
Her throat had been slit.Police said there are yet to identify suspects in the murder and that investigations are underway.
Sixteen persons have been injured after a train bound to Trincomalee was derailed in Agbopura today (07).
According to the police, the train left Fort, Colombo today morning. It had separated into two sections in Gal Oya, with one section heading to Batticaloa and the other heading to Trincomalee.
The train bound to Trincomalee had consisted of four compartments, and the second compartment had derailed and fallen off the tracks.
Nine women, five men and two children were admitted to the Kanthale Hospital with injuries. Among the injured men were the Railway Guard and his deputy.
The Agbopura Police is conducting further investigations.

Consumers have been expressing their dissatisfaction after the local manufacturer – Highland has reduced the net weight of a yogurt cup.
The cup, which had a net weight of 90g previously, is now down to 80g.
The plastic cup too, has been slightly altered in a manner to make the change not so obvious.
However, it is said that Highland is saving up Rs. 11.50 per cup by reducing the 10g of yogurt.
