President’s visit to Singapore not for medical purpose; day of return uncertain

Presidential Spokesman Kingsley Ratnayake denied media reports that President Gotabhaya Rajapaksa left for Singapore from Katunayake Airport yesterday (13) morning for medical treatment.

Newspapers reported that the spokesman had said the date of the president’s return could not be revealed due to security reasons.

Meanwhile, the President had taken steps to prorogue parliament with effect from midnight on Sunday (12) and did not attend the Cabinet meeting held yesterday (13).
