Fisherman rescued from alleged attack on local fishing vessel
COLOMBO (News 1st) A fisherman, who was injured when a group of suspected Indonesians attacked a multi-day fishing vessel in the South Sea of Sri Lanka, was rescued to the Galle port by the Navy on Tuesday evening (11) and has been admitted to the Karapitiya Hospital for treatment.
The victim suffered serious burns in the attack last Sunday following which he was handed over to a passing ship and then handed over to the Sri Lanka Navy at the territorial border of the sea of Sri Lanka.
It was related that 05 more fishermen were on board this vessel which has set sail from Negombo. However, it was reported that the other fishermen were not harmed and the victim was a 33-year-old resident of Trincomalee.
