Imported eggs being sold in ‘Mariakade’ – Asela Sampath
President of the All-Island Canteen Owners’ Association, Asela Sampath says that imported eggs are being fraudulently sold as local eggs in the ‘Mariakade’ area.
He said this in response to queries by ‘Sri Lanka Mirror’ over a recent quote by the chairman of the State Trading Corporation, Asiri Walisundara.
In a media briefing yesterday (11) , Mr. Sampath had revealed that the eggs are sold after the stamp on them is removed, which can be done very easily.
Mr. Walisundara had recently stated to a newspaper that he is unaware that imported eggs are being sold in the local market after erasing the stamps and that the STC has not released imported eggs to the local market.
However, he had stated that he will look into the matter and take necessary action if it was found to be true.
