SUJEEWA SENASINGHE’S KANDY DWELLING BURGLED

Theft at Sujeewa Senasinghe’s Kandy house

 

A theft has taken place at the Hanthana housing scheme residence of former state minister – Sujeewa Senasinghe, Kandy police say.

According to a complaint lodged with the police by Mr. Senasinghe, gold, cash and a car battery were among the stolen goods that amounted to around Rs. 500,000.

Mr. Senasinghe had also stated to the police that two employees at the house were behind the theft.

Further investigations are underway and arrests are yet to be made.

“President’s goal is, not to pass the task of reconciliation to next generation”

Presidential Secretary Mr Saman Ekanayake stated that President Ranil Wickremesinghe’s goal is, not to pass the task of reconciliation in Sri Lanka to the next generation, but to solve it now.

The President’s Secretary pointed out that there is a strong need to resolve the issues related to the reconciliation process, and that if this effort is successful, there will be no need for the country to go to the UN Human Rights Council in Geneva for another year.

Mr. Saman Ekanayake,  made these remarks at a civil society awareness discussion on the Truth and Reconciliation Mechanism held yesterday (11) at the Presidential Secretariat under the chairmanship of Foreign Minister Mr. Ali Sabri.

The Foreign Minister explained the objectives of the Truth and Reconciliation Mechanism, and the role of the Truth and Reconciliation Commission was discussed at length.

Mr. Saman Ekanayake, who sought the views and suggestions of the members of the civil society organizations who were present on the achievement of the objectives of the establishment of the commission, also stated that he expects everyone’s support to make the reconciliation process a success.

He emphasized that the agreement and support of all citizens is needed to move forward as a country.

Japan paves the way for SL’s digitalization

Ambassador of Japan – Mr. Mizukoshi Hideaki, today (12) handed over the technical standards prepared by Japan on the Digital Terrestrial Television Broadcasting (DTTB) project in Sri Lanka to Minister of Mass Media – Bandula Gunawardana.

Japan has been continuously supporting the DTTB project in Sri Lanka since 2014 by a Japanese ODA loan assistance. The DTTB project will offer two major benefits to Sri Lanka. It will not only provide all the people of Sri Lanka with the experience of watching High-Definition television broadcasts free of charge, but will also strengthen the telecommunications infrastructure that serves as the foundation for the digitalization of social and economic activities through the effective use of the radio waves.

Ambassador Mizukoshi stressed how significant this project is in terms of implementing “Digital Economy” that the government of Sri Lanka has been focusing on as one of its top priorities, as well as exploring bilateral cooperation in this field.

It is sincerely hoped that this milestone project will be successfully completed soon to help achieve the sustainable development of Sri Lanka as well as to further develop our bilateral relationship between Japan and Sri Lanka.
