Sanath visits Jaffna to promote “Glocal Fair 2023
Cricket legend Sanath Jayasuriya, who also serves as Sri Lanka’s tourism ambassador, visited Jaffna on Sunday to promote the “Glocal Fair 2023” event organized by the Ministry of Labour and Foreign Employment.
The fair aimed to bring together all institutions under the ministry, with support from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Ministry of Education, and the Central Bank. Over the course of two days, attendees had access to various information related to foreign employment and labour issues.
During his visit, Jayasuriya joined Minister Manusha Nanayakkara in an event where they distributed school stationery items to more than 500 children in Jaffna. Addressing the children, Jayasuriya encouraged them to pursue sports and expressed his desire to see a player from the North representing Sri Lanka.
Minister Nanayakkara highlighted the significance of the Glocal Fair in Jaffna, emphasizing that it was the first time a ministry, with support from other stakeholders, provided its full services in regional outstations. He also called for unity between the people of the North and South in the effort to rebuild Sri Lanka.
The minister emphasized that the government was committed to rebuilding the country, treating all citizens equally regardless of caste, religion, color, or party affiliation. He urged people to put aside their differences and join hands in the journey to rebuild the nation. Nanayakkara reiterated the importance of national unity, stating that Sri Lanka was a single country with no divisions based on religion, caste, color, or party. He emphasized the government’s aim to provide equal opportunities and fair treatment for all Sri Lankans.
