Elephant calf chases Wildlife officials during rescue attempt

 

Video footage has emerged of an elephant calf chasing officials from the Wildlife Department who were attempting to treat its mother stranded in farmland in Batticaloa.

As per the incident reported on Wednesday (26), the elephant had fallen after stepping onto a mud patch in farmland in the Vantharumoolai area in Batticaloa.

Officials from the Ampara Wildlife Department arrived at the scene and attempted to assist the elephant which was struggling to get up during which its calf prevented the officers from approaching.

After being chased by the calf and multiple attempts to capture it, the officers were able to tie it to a tree after which they treated and assisted the elephant stuck in mud. (NewsWire)
