Fresh dates named for UNP convention
The United National Party (UNP) has decided to hold their party convention on Sep. 21 at 2.00pm, at the Sugathadasa Indoor Stadium, Colombo.
The decision was taken today (08) at the UNP Working Committee meeting held at the party HQ Sirikotha, under the auspices of party leader – President Ranil Wickremesinghe.
It was previously decided to hold the party convention on Sep. 10, which was later cancelled due to the prevailing rainy weather.

Secretary General of the Parliament, Mrs. Kushani Rohanadeera stated that the Adjournment Debate on the Easter Sunday attack and National Security at Present has been scheduled to be taken up on the 21st and the 22nd.
Accordingly, the Parliament has been scheduled to convene from the 19th to the 22nd and time from 9.30 a.m. to 10.30 a.m. has been allotted for Questions for Oral Answers.
Tuesday, 19th of September, Regulations under the Registration of Persons Act and Regulations under the Colombo Port City Economic Commission Act published under Gazette Extraordinary No. 2334/47 has been scheduled to be taken up for debate from 10.30 a.m. – 5.00 p.m. Thereafter, time has been allotted from 5.00 p.m. to 5.30 p.m. for Questions at the Adjournment Time.
Wednesdays, 20th of September, Regulations under the Forest Conservation Ordinance (Chapter 451) published under the Gazette Extraordinary No. 2346/02 will be taken up for debate from 10.30 a.m. to 5.00 p.m.
On Thursday 21st of September and Friday 22nd of September Adjournment Debate on Easter Sunday Attack and National Security at Present by the Opposition will be taken up for debate from 9.30 a.m. to 5.30 p.m.
Furthermore, the Resolution under the Essential Public Services Act is also scheduled to be passed without debate.
The Department of Meteorology has predicted occasional rains or thundershowers tomorrow (09) in Western, Sabaragamuwa and North-Western provinces as well as in the districts of Kandy, Nuwara Eliya, Galle and Matara.
Meanwhile, the National Building Research Organization said that the landslide warning notices issued for five districts will be extended further.
Several areas in Sri Lanka have been experiencing heavy rain in the last few days with the highest rainfall in the last 24 hours reported from Moralia Oya area in Kegalle.In addition, several low lying areas have been inundated.
A person who had supplied motorcycles for underworld activities has been arrested by the Organized Crime Investigation Unit of the Colombo Crime Division.
It is reported that the arrested suspect is a 39-year-old resident of Modara, known as “Manju”.
According to the Colombo Crime Division, 03 stolen motorcycles that were found in the suspect’s possession, have also been seized by the police.
