Doctors in 5 districts on strike today
The Government Medical Officers’ Association says that they will go on a 24 hour strike from 08.00 am today (20).
Doctors in five district hospitals are on strike in protest of the publication of lists of post-internship appointments without the approval of the transfer boards.
The Government Medical Officers’ Association stated that the strike was being carried out in Mannar, Trincomalee, Nuwara Eliya, Ratnapura and Polonnaruwa districts.
Secretary of the Government Medical Officers’ Association Dr. Senal Fernando said at a media briefing yesterday that emergency services would continue despite the strike.
He said the military-minded health secretary should take responsibility for the disruption of services at hospitals and Covid treatment centers, due to the strike.
