Astrologer Indika Thotawatta remanded

 

Astrologer Indika Thotawatta who was arrested earlier today has been remanded until October 20, on the orders of Maligakanda Magistrate.

He was arrested earlier in the day (06) by the Police Computer Crimes Division over allegedly making statements damaging ethnic and religious harmony.

NPP files petition against Anti Terrorism Bill

MP Vijitha Herath, national executive member of the National People’s Power (NPP), has filed a petition today (06) before the Supreme Court, against the proposed Anti – Terrorism Bill.

Several political parties, organizations, civil activists trade unions have expressed their opposition towards the Bill.

2 more petitions against Online Safety Bill

Meanwhile, Deputy Chairperson of Committees informed the Parliament today (06) that the  Speaker has received the copies of two more Petitions filed at the Supreme Court under Article 121(1) of the Constitution in respect of the Bill titled “Online Safety”, in addition to the receipt of two Petitions mentioned in the announcement on 04th October 2023.

Driver who ran over policeman, remanded

The driver who was arrested for causing the death of a Police Constable by running him over with a SUV yesterday (05) has been remanded.

The Colombo Magistrate’s Court has remanded the 27-year-old driver until October 10th.

Meanwhile, Police Constable Manoj Priyankara who succumbed to his injuries has been posthumously elevated to the rank of Sergeant.

15-hr water cut in Colombo tomorrow

The National Water Supply and Drainage Board says the water supply to several areas in Colombo will be disrupted for 15 hours from 7pm tomorrow.

The Water Board said the water supply will be disrupted from 7pm tomorrow to 8am on Sunday for residents of Colombo 11, 12, 13, 14 and 15.

The water cut has been attributed to maintenance work due to be carried out at the Ambatale Water Treatment Plant.
