AKD GRILLS SLC OFFICIALS-CONSULTANT ROLE OFFERED TO SENIOR DIG WESTERN PROVINCE

Consultant role offered to SDIG: AKD grills SLC officials

National Peoples Power (NPP) Leader MP Anura Kumara Dissanayake has questioned Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) on the alleged Consultant role offered to a Senior Police Officer currently on active duty.

MP Dissanayake raised questions on the matter during the meeting between the Committee on Public Enterprises (COPE) and SLC held yesterday (Nov 14).

“Did you hire a Senior Deputy Inspector General of Police? Have you paid a salary for the employment?” the MP queried from the SLC officials.

Stating that making such an offer to a Police officer on active duty was in itself wrong, MP Dissanayake likened it to being offered a bribe.

Responding to the MP’s questions, SLC President Shammi Silva said no active Police officer has been hired and not a single penny has been paid in this regard.

The Treasurer of the SLC revealed that the role of a security consultant was offered to the Senior Police officer as the team was engaging in tournaments at a time when Sri Lanka was facing a severe crisis, including a shortage of fuel.

He further said that even though the offer had been made out of desperation based on the situation at the time, the Senior Police official had rejected it.

Members of the COPE Committee, thereafter, informed the SLC representatives to acknowledge that there had been a lapse in their process on this specific job offer.
