Police had dispersed protesting university students near the University of Moratuwa and the University of Jayawardenapura today (April 03), using tear gas and water cannons.

The demonstrations had been reportedly organised in protest over a Cabinet decision to privatize higher education.

Several protest demonstrations were held in the recent weeks by undergraduates of several universities, which were dispersed by the police.
