SIYABALANDUWA SOLAR POWER PROJECT CAUSES A LOSS OF RS 8.7 BILLION

“Loss of Rs 8.7 bn from Siyambalanduwa solar power project” CID complaint lodged

 

The Electricity Users’ Association held a protest in front of the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) on the 27th, submitting a written complaint regarding an alleged irregularity by the Ceylon Electricity Board in a tender for a 100 MW solar power generation project in the Siyambalanduwa area.

The complaint was handed over by Mr. Sanjeeva Dhammika, National Secretary of the Electricity Users’ Association.

Sanjeeva Dhammika, National Secretary of Electricity Users’ Association, while speaking to the media after the complaint was handed over said;

” This tender of 100 MW solar power project in Siyambalanduwa, has been illegally awarded to a bidder who provided high bidding during the tender award. This is a big fraud of Rs.8.7 billion. This loss will be incurred on the electricity consumers and the Treasury. Therefore, we have made a written complaint to the CID to conduct a formal investigation in this regard and bring the culprits to justice.”

Speaking to the media further, he stated that a number of companies are involved in this massive scam, but that the identities of those companies cannot currently be disclosed owing to legal proceedings. Nevertheless, if the law is not properly executed, the names of those companies will be made public in future.
