A nine year old with critical, multiple stab injuries, said to be committed by a 14-year old, has been admitted to the Hambantota Base Hospital.

The 14-year old had also been admitted to the Embilipitiya Hospital after drinking poison, following the stabbing.

The stabbing had taken place yesterday (June 05) in the Angunakolapelessa Wetiya area in Hambantota.

The children are both neighbours and friends and according to authorities the 14 year old is addicted to video games.

Train drivers attached to the Locomotive Operating Engineers’ Association at two railway yards will go on strike with effect from midnight (June 06).

The Association says that they will take TU action over prolonged issues that are being ignored by Railway authorities.

The government has decided to provide financial assistance to help people clean their flood-hit houses.

State Minister of Defence Premitha Bandara Tennakoon said the government will provide Rs.10,000 per family for this purpose.
