ONE MILLION EXPECTED FOR POSON IN MIHINTALE -THE POSON WEEK COMMENCES UNTIL THE 24th

National Poson week commences today

The national Poson week commences today and will continue until June 24.

Anuradhapura District Secretary Janaka Jayasundara said that nearly 1 million devotees are expected to visit the holy city of Anuradhapura for the Poson Festivities this year.

He further assures pilgrims that necessary facilities are in place.

According to the police, security in Anuradhapura has been tightened for Poson, and accordingly steps have been taken to deploy 4,500 officers to ensure a safe and peaceful festival in Anuradhapura.

Meanwhile, several special public transportation services have been introduced for the convenience of pilgrims visiting the Mihintale Temple in view of Poson Poya.

Accordingly, Sri Lanka Railways today launched a free train service from Anuradhapura to Mihintale.
