IMF delegation to review Sri Lanka’s economic progress next week
A delegation from the International Monetary Fund (IMF) is expected to arrive in Sri Lanka next week to review the country’s economic progress, State Minister of Finance Shehan Semasinghe said.
“This is not a discussion for the third IMF review but to discuss the economic progress of the country and other measures to strengthen the economy,” Semasinghe said.
He added that a growth rate of 5.1% was recorded in the first quarter of 2024, which the government expects to maintain.
The State Finance Minister said that while most forecasts predict an economic growth of 2% this year, the government expects this figure to be maintained between 3% and 3.5%.
“Sri Lanka’s economy contracted by 7.8% in 2022, which we hope to transform into a growth of 3.5%,” he said.
