A NEW TREND OF WOMEN SETTIMG THEMSELVES O FIRE OWING TO ISSUES WITH HUSBANDS-CMC ADDITIONAL CORONER

Trend of women setting themselves ablaze!

Women have a tendency to commit suicide by setting themselves on fire due to issues with their husbands, says Colombo Municipal Additional Coroner Iresha Samaraweera.

She said that women between the ages of 30-40 were more inclined to commit suicide in this manner.

It has been found that women tend to set themselves on fire in order to scare their husbands after minor disputes.

Last year alone 20 women who were admitted to the Colombo National Hospital after setting themselves on fire had died while receiving treatment, said Colombo Municipal Additional Coroner Iresha Samaraweera.

She said this is a very dangerous situation and urged women to avoid resorting to such rash decisions over minor issues.
