SC ORDER ON REINSTATING OF FIRST FEMALE DIG NPC TO DISCUSS

NPC to discuss SC order on reinstating first female DIG

The National Police Commission (NPC) is set to deliberate on the Supreme Court (SC) ruling that deemed the removal of Deputy Inspector General of Police (DIG) Bimshani Jasin Arachchi from her role as Acting DIG of the Community Police Division a violation of her fundamental rights (FR).

The SC’s recommendation includes reinstating her by 5 October, pending receipt of the official order.

The Supreme Court, in its recent judgment, ruled that articles 12(1) and 12(2) of the Constitution—which guarantee equality before the law and protection against discrimination—were violated in Jasin Arachchi’s removal.

The decision came after she filed a petition challenging the removal upon her return from a one-year United Nations assignment.
