Open arrest warrants issued for Arjuna and Ajahn over bond scam

Colombo Chief Magistrate Thilina Gamage today (19) issued open warrants for the arrest of former Central Bank Governor Arjuna Mahendran and Ajahn Punchihewa, a former director of Perpetual Treasuries Limited, in connection with the 2015 Central Bank bond scam.

The warrants were issued after the suspects failed to appear in court despite previous orders. The Criminal Investigation Department has charged six individuals, including Mahendran and Punchihewa, for allegedly causing a loss of over Rs. 600 million to the government through fraudulent bond transactions.

The Magistrate also instructed that Arjun Aloysius, another suspect in the case, be presented at the next court hearing.
