SRI LANKA STRIVES TO BECOME CARBON NET-ZERO COUNTRY BY YEAR 2050

The government says it will prepare a roadmap and strategic plan to make Sri Lanka a carbon net-zero country by the year 2050.

Accordingly, the Cabinet of Ministers has granted approval to a proposal submitted by the Minister of Environment to design a road map that is revised every five years after reviewing the progress and to formulate a five-year strategic plan.

A committee of experts will be appointed for this purpose.f a country is to achieve a carbon net-zero status, steps must be taken primarily to reduce emissions of greenhouse gases into the atmosphere and increase carbon dioxide-absorbing ecosystems.
