Former Deputy Minister leaves huge arrears in water bills!

According to sources at the National Water Supply and Drainage Board, a former Deputy Minister has failed to pay more than Rs. 1.5 million for the water obtained for his official residence during his tenure as the Minister.

The default is said to be water bills submitted for the official residence in Trincomalee, which he used during his tenure as Deputy Minister.

The National Water Supply and Drainage Board says that the former Deputy Minister has been reminded several times to pay the arrears immediately, but he has not paid the amount yet.

A spokesman for the board had told Lankadeepa that a reminder would be issued in this regard.This former Deputy Minister is a long time Member of Parliament who lost the last Parliamentary election.Meanwhile, it is learned that a number of trade union representatives of the Supply and Drainage Board have recently made a special request to the heads of those institutions to take immediate action to recover the water bills of the politicians.
