Cement prices go sky high
Cement companies have decided to hike the price of cement once again, this time by Rs. 475, just a few days after the commencement of production at Sri Lanka’s largest cement manufacturing facility- Lanwa Sanstha Cement.
Lanwa Sanstha Cement raised the price as of midnight yesterday (12).
A bag of cement was officially Rs. 1,375, prior to this price increase; however, cement was been sold at higher prices in the market.
The recent price hike puts a cement bag at Rs. 1,850. Reports state the Lanwa Sanstha Cement manufacturing facility at the Magampura Industrial Zone, inaugurated by President Gotabhaya Rajapaksa and Prime Minister Mahinda Rajapaksa recently, is capable of producing 200,000 cement bags per hour.
